Scratched, burned, cut and painted. Abstract photographs, a distorted surface and underneath it, people are showing themselves. People suffering from the obsessive-compulsive disorder “skin picking“. Those affected obsessively scratch and pick their skin. “Es klebt an mir wiePech“ (It sticks to me like pitch) reveals the suffering of the victims and offers their own image as a projection surface instead of the skin. The portraits were enlarged on film material and given to the protagonists, so they could alter them individually. The transformation of their own image functions as a form of expression: Inner tensions, stress, pressure, perfectionism and suppressed feelings come to light and provide insights into the psyche of the people. An exchange develops between photographer and portrayed person, an interaction between human and self-image comes to life.
