Since 2016, Jana Sophia Nolle has been addressing the ever-widening gap between rich and poor. This motivated her to begin a (conceptual) photographic study of homeless shelters 2017/2018 in San Francisco. Using the housing problem as an example the artist addressed sociopolitical changes and aspects of gentrification. Nolle approached homeless people on the street, portrayed them, and asked them for permission to take pictures of their homes. As art performance, Nolle reconstructed the shelters of homeless in the living rooms of wealthy people and photographed them there. In 2019, Nolle received the Haus am Kleistpark Berlin/Research Fellowship from the Berlin Senate and was able to continue the project in Berlin. In 2020, she published a monograph of the project titled "Living Room, San Francisco 2017/18" by Kerber Verlag.

Jana Sophia Nolle (*1986) lives and works in Berlin. She works in many fields moving between research, observation, conceptual photography, video and the work with objects. Since 2019, Nolle has been an Affiliate Artist at Catharine Clark Gallery, San Francisco, CA, USA. Nolle received her MSc from SOAS University London and earned a degree in photography from Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie, Berlin. Nolle's work is represented in numerous public and private collections and has been shown internationally in solo and group exhibitions, most recently at the Sprengel Museum Hannover, BlueSky Gallery Portland, USA, and Haus am Kleistpark Berlin.
